Is He your rock?

God is my rock

God is my rock

Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
Psalm 62:1-2

Is God the rock in your life right now?  Take a minute…..step back…..close your eyes…..think about it.

Not sure?  Let me ask it a different way….  What do you put your trust in?

(pausing to get your attention)

(pausing to get your attention)

(pausing to get your attention)

Have you thought about it yet?  —-if not – seriously, stop, close your eyes and THINK :)  I know – hard to do these days… The answer to this question is usually something distracting us from our relationship with God.

I think if we are honest most of us will answer something like this….

  • my husband
  • my wife
  • my bank account
  • my house
  • my family
  • my dad
  • my mom
  • my friends
  • my job
  • my stuff
  • my happiness
  • my kids
  • “my plan” for my life <—ding ding ding we have a winner for Nick!

We think, man as long as I have “this” (take your pick) I’ll be just fine.  I can be “happy”.

The danger of that is as we go through life we are constantly being shaken.  Everything else in this life in unstable and changing.  Look, plans change, people change, stuff changes, but God never changes.

Man I’ve heard that so many times in sermons and frankly I’ve tuned it out a bit.  I think I “knew” it, but never knew what that truly meant.

If God is my rock, my salvation, and my fortress then what on this earth could shake me?  Nothing.

When I say that, I absolutely think about what if God took my wife, my daughters, my freedom, my money, or anything else – you name it.  How would I feel then.

Well, I pray that I know God is good no matter what trials we face in this life.  And I know that I know there are trials coming.

I pray that you (whoever is reading this) will make God your rock.  I pray that just maybe one of you will learn something from our struggles and writing about them here.

So now, PLEASE read that verse again…  and remember what it means.

Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
Psalm 62:1-2
